Rolling Stone magazine has put up Gaslit as an exclusive download. Peter and I wrote Gaslit during the making of “Ninth” but it was released on the “Secret Bees of Ninth” – an EP with extra songs. Gaslit is different from the other songs that I produced for Peter in that it was primarily done in my studio on analog modular synthesizers. It uses an old Roland drum machine as the basis, an Elka Synthex for the chords, and various other modular synthesizers. Mark Gemini Thwaite added a searing ebow guitar. Peter recorded the vocals in my studio in one take. He was lying on the studio couch listening to the track take shape. He got up and sang a perfect take. The drums were added last by master drummer Jerry Marotta at Dreamland Studios. Dreamland has a large recording space – a chapel of the wooden church. Jerry played with special shaker-mallets. The result was a highly organic texture against the electronic ambient setting. The track was mixed at Dreamland by John Siket on their classic API console.
